To enable data transmission, perimeter and PC are connected with a cable.
A special cable has to be used. Compared to a standard serial cable, several lines are interrupted. If you manufacture the cable yourself, use only 9 pin connectors. Only the following pins are connected:
Perimeter's side (female connector) -> PC's side (female connector)
Pin 2 -> Pin 2
Pin 3 -> Pin 3
Pin 5 -> Pin 5
Pin 7 -> Pin 7
Pin 8 -> Pin 8
Warning: Do not combine 25 pin and 9 pin connectors on this cable. The pin setting is very different and can cause error. Use manufactured 25 to 9 pin adapters.
The cable is plugged into the interface of the perimeter (see perimeter's manual for details).
The PC has male connectors with 9 or 25 pins. These connectors are called serial interfaces (COM or RS232 interface). Most PC have 2 connectors labeled COM 1 or COM 2. The cable from the perimeter is plugged into a free interface. If the connector has 25 pins, use an adapter. Please note the number of the interface (No.1 or No.2).
Attention! Using 25 pin connectors, you must ensure that it is not a SCSI interface. These connectors may have the same dimensions, but are electrically belonging to a different system. Plugging the perimeter into a SCSI interface may damage your computer !
When the cable connection is set, continue with the next step.
